can't afford one of those fancy minimoog voyagers? arturia has a virtual solution, the minimoog v (pictured left) software synth, available in standalone and plugin (vst, dxi, mas, rtas, htdm and audio units) for windows and mac. boasting the most faithful reproduction of a minimoog, this software version also includes polyphony, full midi functionality, presets and effects. load it on your laptop and pretend the screen is the flip-up panel.

2004 is the year that the big consumer companies, having recently acquired audio software manufacturers, showed up at namm in full force. most prominent was apple, which gobbled up emagic, displayed the latest (mac only, of course) versions of logic audio, as well as new apple apps soundtrack (pictured left) and the home recording studio program garage band.

sony continued the consumer company presence trend with their demos of former sonic foundry products sound forge 7.0 and vegas. but unlike apple, their software will still work even if you don't own a vaio.

completing the consumer company trifecta, adobe showed off audition, a.k.a. the software formerly known as syntrillium cool edit pro.
