aside from some re-packaged motif keyboards, yamaha busts out with the 01x recording system. a hybrid firewire audio interface, mixer, control surface and midi hub (all with yamaha's mlan interface technology), the company hopes to get a jump in on the digital audio workstation scene.

although it debuted at the summer 2003 namm show in nashville, akai brought out its mpc1000 (left) sampling workstation to the anaheim floor for the first time. it's basically a stripped-down mpc2000xl, with a memory card interface rather than a floppy/zip drive. they even presented an mpc2000xl painted in similar colors.

behringer jumps into the control surface foray with the b-control series. pictured left is the bcr-2000 rotary controller, ideal for softsynths. other models in the series are the bcf-2000 (featuring eight faders and eight knobs) and the bca-2000 (featuring three switchable sets of knobs and faders, emulating an audio mixer channel).

m-audio got da funk. well not technically; george clinton does an impromptu spoken word (?!) performance while keyboardist christoph bull (playing m-audio's new 88-weighted-key controler, the keystation pro 88) looks on. they perform during violinist lili haydn's demo performance set, with the audio generated and processed by ableton live 3. m-audio also released some more firewire audio interfaces and is now the owner of former competitor evolution, thus establishing their dominance in the usb keyboard controller market.
